Frequently asked questions about the site
Questions about the site itself. Questions about a particular work, artist or movement are answered on that subject’s page.
Frequently asked questions about the site
May I use the images of the works?
The works reproduced here are in the public domain, so yes. But take the file from the source: under each image there is a link to the file on Wikimedia Commons, with the original resolution and the exact licence of that reproduction. Our copy is downsized for page speed.
Why do some artists appear with no image?
Because their work is still under copyright in parts of the world, or because only modern photos with no verified licence exist. In that case the page says so plainly and carries text only. We would rather publish an honest page with no image than an image with no licence.
Who writes this site?
One person, with a name and an email address on the contact page. The fact sheets come from museum catalogues and public datasets; the text around them is written here, work by work, from public research — it is not bulk-generated text shipped unreviewed.
Are the zodiac and Bible-verse pages advice?
No. They describe what astrological or religious tradition claims, and quote texts whose copyright has expired. We predict no events, promise no outcomes and give no advice about health, money or relationships.
Why do some pages have far less text?
Because there is little public material on that subject. We prefer a short, true page to a long, padded one. When there is neither a fact sheet nor material to write from, the page stays online but is not indexed on Google and carries no ads.
How is the site paid for?
By advertising. Ads do not influence which works get a page or what the text says, and no museum, church or publisher pays for prominence. We accept no paid links and no sponsored posts.
I found an error. What do I do?
Write through the contact page naming the page and the wrong field. If you send the museum or catalogue reference with the right value, the correction ships the same day.
