Cookie policy

It is a small file a site stores in your browser so it can recognise that browser on a later visit. It gives no access to your files or your camera; it is used to count visits, remember a preference and pick an ad.

Some are set by us, others by companies that deliver part of the page — that is the case for the ads and the video player.

A cookie notice built by us would not do: to show personalised ads in Europe, consent has to be collected by a platform certified under the industry framework. We use Google’s own, which is certified, stores your answer and lets you change it later.

That means that if you refuse, the ads still appear — they are simply not personalised. No page on the site stops opening because of that choice.

This site serves readers in the United Kingdom, Ireland and across Europe, and it is largely about European collections. In those regions, and also in Switzerland, personalised advertising may only be shown with consent. That is why a notice appears there asking first.

Outside those regions you can switch personalisation off at any time in your Google account ad settings, or through the industry opt-out tools listed on the privacy page.

Every browser lets you delete stored cookies and block new ones, per site or in general. Look for "cookies" or "site data" in your browser settings.

Blocking everything does not break this site: you still read every page and see every image. What may stop working is the embedded video and the audience count.
