♌ Leo: dates, element and traits

The second fire sign of the cycle, Leo is traditionally linked to self-confidence and personal flair: the image is of someone generous and loyal who likes being seen and recognised, with a pride that both motivates and, in excess, pushes people away.

Element compatibility

In the astrological tradition, signs that share the same element (Aries, Sagittarius) are usually read as a natural fit. Aquarius, the opposite sign in the cycle, is read as the pairing with the most tension — and, for some astrologers, also the most mutual growth.

Tradition, not prediction

The traits below come from Western astrological tradition — a centuries-old cultural language, not a scientific claim about personality. This page does not generate a daily horoscope: the dates and element are a citable fact, the rest is traditional interpretation.

How to read Leo's element and quality

Leo is a fire sign with a fixed quality in traditional astrology. It shares its element with Aries and Sagittarius, which the tradition reads as a kinship of temperament between the three, even though each one's quality changes how that element shows up.

The sign traditionally "opposite" Leo in the cycle is Aquarius — six months apart on the calendar — and traditional astrology reads that specific pairing, Leo and Aquarius, as tension that can also become complementarity: each tends to have what the other lacks.

The 23 Jul–22 Aug period assigned to Leo follows the Western tropical zodiac convention, which splits the year into 12 equal parts starting from the March equinox — which is why that particular start and end date can shift by a day depending on the year, since the civil calendar and the solar cycle don't line up perfectly.
