Zodiac compatibility

Rather than treating each of the 144 possible sign pairings separately, astrological tradition usually simplifies the reading of compatibility through the four elements — fire, earth, air and water. It is a more honest way to summarise the tradition than pretending there is an exact answer for every specific combination.

ElementSigns
FireAries, Leo, Sagittarius
EarthTaurus, Virgo, Capricorn
AirGemini, Libra, Aquarius
WaterCancer, Scorpio, Pisces

Same element: a kinship of temperament

Signs of the same element tend, in the tradition, to understand each other quickly — they share a way of reacting to the world. The watch-out is that, reacting alike, they can also reinforce the same weak spot instead of balancing it.

Complementary elements

Fire and air are read as a pairing that feeds itself (air "fans" the fire); earth and water, as a pairing that sustains itself (water "nourishes" the earth). Fire with water, and earth with air, tend to be read as the combinations with the most tension — not necessarily bad, but needing more adjustment.

Cuidado

Tradition, not prediction

This reading is centuries-old astrological folklore, not a scientific claim: there is no evidence that a sign’s element predicts how well a relationship will work. Treat it as a cultural, entertainment lens, not a diagnosis.

Tradition/belief vs. fact

A distinction used on this site: something is treated as fact when it can be independently verified (a calendar date, an old translation); it is treated as tradition or belief when it is a cultural or spiritual interpretation with no scientific proof — such as horoscopes and numerology.
