How to check if a website is down
Before assuming a service is down, it helps to separate a problem with your own connection from an actual outage on the service side.
Step by step
- Test the same address on another device or network (mobile data, for example).
- Check whether other sites load normally — if nothing loads, the problem is probably your internet.
- Look up the service's official status page (list below) instead of relying only on social media comments.
- Wait a few minutes and try again: many hiccups resolve quickly on the service side.
Official status pages
These pages are maintained by the companies themselves and updated in real time by them — the most reliable source to know if an outage is widespread.
- YouTube / Google
- Instagram / WhatsApp / Meta
- Discord
- Steam
- ChatGPT / OpenAI
- Cloudflare (afeta muitos sites)

Why "it's down for me" differs from "it's down for everyone"
A site can be unreachable just for you (local DNS issue, network block, browser extension) while working fine for everyone else. That is why the first step is always to test on another device or network before concluding the service is actually down.
The official status pages listed below are the most reliable source when the problem really is widespread: they are updated by the company itself, unlike third-party sites that only guess from user complaints.

DNS
The system that translates an address like "example.com" into the server's IP number. When DNS fails, the browser has nowhere to send the request.
