Why Eevee has so many evolutions

Eevee is known for having the most possible evolutions among the original-generation species, each tied to a different elemental type — which is why it is the classic example used to explain evolution methods (stone, friendship, time of day, known move).

The friendship evolutions (Espeon by day, Umbreon by night) and the newer Sylveon need a high bond with the trainer, not just level — a different mechanic from most stone-based evolutions.
