How to read the diagram

Filled dots mark where to press; × means a string you do not play; an empty circle means an open string you do play.

O que fazer com isso

What to do with it

Practice switching between C, G, Am and Em first: they anchor thousands of songs in a major key and its relative minor.

How to read the diagram

The 6 vertical lines are the strings (lowest on the left to highest on the right); the horizontal lines are the frets. An × means don't play that string; an empty circle on top means play it open; a filled dot marks where to press.

Chords with an × on some string (like C or F) demand more right-hand control to avoid hitting that string by accident — one reason G, E, Em and D are usually taught first.
